Getting up at 7:00 and leaving at 9:00 for Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings. The road is leading up hill and along the cliffs of the canyon. Every now and then there is a view point where we were able to look at the cliff dwellings at the other side of the canyon. These structures were built at around 1100 to 1300 A.D. It’s simply amazing what these people accomplished with their still quite primitive tools. Also it is still unknown why they built their houses into the cliffs and also why the left them again after 1300. It was interesting to see these ruins. (These people must have been excellent climbers!).

We continue and head south towards Aztec, where we have a look at the Ruins. These ruins are at top level and comprise of several hundred rooms. These structures have about the same age as the cliff dwellings from Mesa Verde – also very impressive.
We take a short drive to Farmington, the only bigger city in this area to find a Hotel with Internet connection. We are lucky and find a room at the Knights Inn with high-speed internet in each room.

Farmington is a real ‘Kaff’ and besides fast food there isn’t much. So we decide to go to Pizza Hut, since I’ve wanted pizza already yesterday this sounds just right to me. We start with some salad while waiting; we had 3 plates of salad finished and were still waiting. Inquiring didn’t help. All the take away people were served and left again and we were still waiting. I guess about 45 mins at least – and that in a fast-food restaurant! Finally, Marco gets his pasta and I get a pizza – but, not what I had ordered. The manager is offering me to wait 15 mins to get a new pizza – we leave – disappointed and still hungry. At Applebee’s we have some spicy chicken wings for Marco and a chicken roll-up for me – better than nothing. But tomorrow I definitely want a pizza!
