Home Road Trips USA 2003 Amistad

Amistad

Amistad

Odometer: 109,568
8:00 we get up. Breakfast was not included either, so we leave half an hour later. First we drive back 10 miles to have a closer look at the Amistad Reservoir. A deep blue lake surrounded by white rocks – beautiful. We see some big horn deer as well as deer with long white tails and a few rabbits. The lake is also ideal to take a cooling bath.

Towards lunch time we head on south through Del Rio, along Rio Grande and the Mexican border towards Laredo. Besides some (near) ghost towns we pass pecan plantations as well as some nice ranches. The landscape here is much greener again.
We realize how big Texas is: you can drive for hours and not see anything not even mountains, it’s just flat!
We stop about 40 miles before Laredo to take some impressions about the vegetation and the environment.

In Laredo we surge for a decent hotel with coin laundry, which seems impossible. Finally we stay at the Red Roof Inn (without laundry). At the Outback we savor a nice prime rib for dinner. After dinner we go grocery shopping – the real Mexican/Texan family experience!
