To look at things is very different from seeing it – Oscar Wilde

8:00 getting up – 9:30 Visitor Center and on to Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge. We drive and walk around until about 2:00 p.m.  We see a deer, some rabbits, a fox, doves, lots of different herons and two different hawks as well as hundreds of dragon flies in all sizes and colors. It is steaming hot like in a Turkish bath.

Then we follow some small roads to Port Mansfield a small fisher village. What we find there is not very inviting: there is one motel, which doesn’t even look too bad, the beach is muddy and a huge mess and there is exactly one pub. -> We drive the 50 miles back to Harlingen to look for a hotel. On the way we are passing endless cotton fields, which had been harvested already, and also sugar cane plantations. We pamper ourselves with a room with Jacuzzi at the Super 8 Motel and a nice pasta dinner at Olive Garden.
