Home Road Trips USA 2003 Port Arthur to Lafayette

Port Arthur to Lafayette

Port Arthur to Lafayette

Odometer: 111,145
08:00 getting up. 09:30 after a nice breakfast we drive back to Port Arthur and nearly get lost again. Eventualy we find the bridge over to Louisiana and down to the gulf again. Sabine National Wildlife Refuge is not what we expected; it is more a fishing area than a way that leads into the marshes. So, we turn around and follow SR 82 along the coast, up to Abbeville and eventually to Lafayette. The vegetation is very (ueppig) and there are water canals everywhere. In some of them and along the road we see some small alligators. Luckily there are fewer mosquitos here – I still get some more bites though, but there are thousands of love bugs, our car is plastered with them and the windshield looks like a battle field. The houses are more in the colonial style and most of them have big lawns.

Late afternoon we arrive in Lafayette and take a room at the La Quinta again. At Don’s Seafood Hut we have a nice and early authentic Cajun dinner.
