07:15 waking up – then nice breakfast and leaving at 9:30 on Hwy 10 to Baton Rouge. After Henderson the highway leads on at least 15 mile long bridge over swamps, lakes and rivers. The bridge is not high. So, we drive about half way up in the trees. In Port Allen we turn south into Hwy 1 following the Mississippi. We don’t see much of the river because the street is running along the bottom of the dam. What we do see though are a lot of sugarcane plantations, some of them dating back to the late1700 and 1800. We visit the Oak Valley Plantation which was built back in 1839. We take a tour through the house and garden – very impressive.

We approach New Orleans from south and search our way to the French Quarter. We park the car and take a walking tour.  It is a very nice and unique quarter but also kind of smelly – we liked it.  We head north on the Causeway Bvld.,  a 24 miles long bridge over Lake Pontchartrain – Louisiana definitely is the State of water and bridges!

We take Hwy 12 back to Baton Rouge. There we stay at the Red Roof Inn, and have dinner at a local Grill with a Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors ice cream for dessert.
