To look at things is very different from seeing it – Oscar Wilde

A sunday in snow

It has been snowing mid week already up in the mountains around San Diego and when we hear the weather forecast for the weekend, predicting even more snow, our plans for Sunday are set. We just have to find a route that is not too busy.
It’s Palomar Mountains we have chosen: From Escondido we drive through the beautiful back country of Southern California, far ahead of us we see the snow covered mountains. After Pauma Valley we turn left through the avocado and orange orchards up the hill. The road get’s messier the further up we get and finally we are in the snow. Even the road is covered with almost a foot of snow and we really can test our car in winter conditions – an easy ride, with Marco mastering all the mud wholes.
The landscape up here is gorgeous in places there is more than a foot of snow. We drive through the forest which looks like a fairy tale. The snow is melting fast though because the sun is shining and the temperatures are around 40 Fahrenheit (4 Celsius). But it’s still winter-wonder-land in Southern California and we are only about 1.5 hours from San Diego and the beaches.
