Time: 4:30 am

We spend a few days at the Pilothouse Marina in Pender Harbor at the Sunshine Coast in BC, Canada with Ronan, Judit and Julian.

From Bellingham, we drive straight up north and cross the border to Canada in Lynden. We bypass Vancouver on TC1 and soon arrive at the Ferry Port Horseshoe Bay. The first ferry is full, so we have to wait for the next one – time for a nap! The road along the Sunshine Coast from the ferry landing is very beautiful and scenic: a lot of bays, forests, lakes and nice houses.

We arrive at Pender Harbor in the middle of the afternoon on Thursday, July 2nd, and spend the next couple days with Ronan and Judit.

This morning we get up early to make sure that we can get on a ferry without having a reservation (it’s Sunday and it has been a long weekend – 4th of July – for the Americans). We wake up at 4:15 am (it is already dawning) and are on the road at 4:30 am. We don’t meet many cars on the road and are at the port at about 5:45 am. The ferry leaves at 6:20 (it is not even half full). From the landing at Horseshoe Bay we take the same route back into the US as we came up north. From there we head south on HWY 5 all the way to Portland, where we arrive early afternoon – time for a nap. Then we go for dinner and spend the evening catching up on our emails.
