Ghost Town

Ghost Town

We hear about Hillsboro and that it would be a ghost town worth a visit.

Arriving in Hillsboro we learn that there are still about 150 “Ghosts” living in this town. We have a chocolate milk shake and then follow the hint of a lady who tells us about Lake Valley.

Lake Valley is located south of Hillsboro along a small back country byway.

Lake Valley is a real ghost town: It originates back in 1880 and we can still visit a few standing structures. The largest building is the schoolhouse which today also serves as museum. It is interesting to learn about how people had lived here back in those days. People were working at the Manganese Mine nearby. The mine remained in operation until after World War II then people left town.
