Home Road Trips USA 2014 Glen Canyon Recreational Area – Big Water

Oct 29, 2014

Glen Canyon Recreational Area – Big Water

Glen Canyon Recreational Area – Big Water

The weather is as perfect as could be. The sky is blue and the temperature just right (during the day it is between 15 and 20 Celsius, at night though it is fairly cold) and it has not been raining for a long time so all the roads are dry.

We pack some snacks and drive out to Big Water. There we pass the creek and head out into the moonlike landscape of Glen Canyon Recreational Area. First we turn left down Crosby Canyon all the way to the lake.

After returning to the “main road” we turn right and drive further along the ever changing rock formations. After a total of about 20 miles from Big Water we finally reach the trail that leads out on the plateau to another overlook of canyon where the lake used to be. The view is still fascinating but quiet different from what it used to be when the level of the lake was much higher.

We return to the hotel mid afternoon and at 5pm walk one block up the street to Stromboli for an Italian dinner.
