Short lived blossom

SONY ILCE-7RM2, f/14, 1/125 sec, ISO 1,250

Our community pool and park are separated by a narrow flower bed with a variety of cacti. This week we have been following the blossom of different cacti plants. As gorgeous as they are, unfortunately the glory only last for about 48 hours.

We have been going there several times a day to watch the buds grow and open. Early morning they were open just a little – by noon they showed their full glory.

Some of them closed again for the night only to re-open the next morning, others stayed open through the whole night. But, as mentioned after a maximum of 2 days these beautiful flowers died as quickly as they came. These magnificent red flowers were about 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter and the whole cactus not even 2 feet (50 cm) in height.

Nature is indeed amazing!
