Now that we know how to drive up to one mile to the Wahweap Hoodoos and do not have to walk the whole 4 Miles up the canyon and back, we cannot wait any longer and must go and find them today. The sky is clear, so nothing can hold us back anymore.

We drive north on HWY 89 to Cottonwood Canyon Road after a bit more than one mile we turn right and from there it’s about another 12 miles west through the moon like landscape until we come to down a steep road into the canyon. We park the car and start walking south. Some small clouds have gathered above the mountains in the north but they seem to look “friendly”. Eventually after a bit more than a mile we see the first Hoodoos to our right – they are as spectacular and beautiful as we remembered them and they looked even nicer as we didn’t have to walk that far to get to them. We spend about an hour there enjoying the site and taking pictures. During this time we hear thunder growling and see big thick clouds gathering and moving closer towards us. We hurry up and head back to the car. We cover the almost 1.5 miles riverbed walk in a bit more than 15 minutes!

Back at the car we see that we get out of the “danger zone” as quickly as possible (sounds familiar doesn’t it?). Well, the sky ahead of us is not as black anymore and we reach HWY 89 safely. Back in Page we follow another hint we got from Roland: we turn right on a road leaving HWY 89 between mile marker 556 and 555. This road eventually leads up to a hill from which you can overlook Lone Rock and Lake Powell and that offers some more Hoodoos and other colorful rock formations – Stud Horse Point.

On the way back to the motel we go shopping at Wal Mart and get some juicy Ribeye steaks which we later put on the BBQ.

Right after dinner at around 6:00 pm we head back up to the Stud Horse Point to enjoy and take pictures of another beautiful sunset over Lake Powell.
