7:40 we wake up. 9:30 time to pack and go. We first stop at a tire and tune-up place to get the brakes checked and the tires replaced. Shortly after 11:00 we are on Hwy 83 south on the way to Zapata.
The humidity is getting higher and higher almost tropical.

The closer we get to the gulf the denser the population gets. The last 20 miles to South Padre Island are very open landscape again with little house. South Padre Island is very touristy with lots of hotels and resorts. The beaches though look more like trash depots – very disappointing!

Since the season is over we find a hotel room for USD 29, incl. breakfast at the Ramada Inn (this time we first checked the room to be safe). We have an early dinner at an Italian restaurant and an Ice cream from Diary Queen before we go back to the hotel to finally do our laundry.
