To look at things is very different from seeing it – Oscar Wilde

First day in Yellowstone

SONY SLT-A77V, f/6.3, 1/400 sec, ISO 500

We let Andrej and Andreas sleep until just after 7am. When we open the curtains we see that all the cars have a white blanket of snow and the sky is covered with thick clouds, oh bummer.

Slowly we get ready, have a coffee, then we put on our warm clothes (long underwear and waterproof shoes, we also pack gloves and caps).

We drive along Madison River into the park at Norris Basin we take our first real walk; it is cold but the beauty of the geysers and mud pools lets us forget the not so perfect weather conditions. We travel north towards Mammoth and towards the north east entrance to Lamar Valley.

Today we have seen elk, deer, bisons, antelopes, bald eagles, a black bear (from very far though) and last but not least a grizzly! Not to forget endless breathtaking landscape and the weather eventually improved a little during the day.
