8:20 time to get up and have some waffles/pancakes for breakfast. Before we leave, I call John again – and reach him. At 10:30 we are at their house and have coffee until about 12:30. It was very nice seeing him and Rose again and we believe they were happy to see us as well.
In the afternoon we make our way out of town again and take Hwy 6 back to Galveston. Today the sun is shining again and everything looks much nicer than yesterday. The ferry boat takes us over to Port Bolivar – besides hundreds of jelly fish we also see dolphins from the ferry.
The houses on the peninsula are more and more appearing in typical southern colonial style; the villages have much more charm.
We take a detour to Anahua National Wildlife Refuge where we are lucky to see some (rather small) alligators and again lots of egrets, herons and cormorants.
We want stay at Port Arthur for the night, but somehow we don’t find the right street and get kind of lost in areas we definitely wouldn’t want to stay. We find our way back out of town and head to Beaumont were we feel much safer and find a room at the La Quinta motel for the night and have dinner at Olive Garden.
