A beautiful sunrise indicates another gorgeous day in San Diego. We head out early for a walk around Shelter Island.
Shelter Island is a neighborhood of Point Loma. It is actually not an island but is connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. The strip was developed in the 1950s and contains hotels, restaurants, marinas and public parkland.
Shelter Island is known as a destination for super yachts because it contains one of the few marinas in San Diego Bay with a deep enough harbor for these oversized vessels.

While walking around Shelter Island we watch some fishermen trying to save their precious catch from the pelicans and sea lions – what a spectacle. The pelicans are literally landing on the back of the boat where they help themselves to some fish which they steal from water bucket and the sea lion is sniffing at the exhaust of the boat hoping that either the pelicans or the fisherman drop a fish.
We love Shelter Island because there is not a lot of traffic and people come here to relax, which creates a vacation like atmosphere – so we took a mini-vacation!
