To look at things is very different from seeing it – Oscar Wilde

Almost a year ago, Jackie and I witnessed the playful courtship of river otters – a quiet, graceful dance. Today was anything but quiet!

From the moment I spotted them, the scene was pure chaos – splashes, sharp vocalizations, and frantic energy. The male persistently pursued the female, their movements a blur of agility and strength. Chirps, growls, and scent-marking rituals followed, a loud and wild spectacle of nature’s raw intensity.

Once again, we were reminded of how lucky we are to witness these moments – and how vital it is to protect the waterways they call home.

Who knows – maybe next year, I’ll cross paths with them again. But for now, the echoes of their lively courtship still linger, a reminder of the untamed beauty that exists just beneath the surface.
