8:15 getting up. 09:00 leaving towards the coast again. It’s raining and the sky is dark grey. We drive along the ocean to Galveston and try to imagine how it would look if the weather were nice. Almost all the houses along the coast are built on pillars which looks kind of funny.
We take Hwy 45 up to Houston and then turn right to visit the Johnson Space Center. After paying USD 4 to just park the car and over USD 30 admission for the two of us, we expect a lot – too much. We expected the exhibition to be bigger, so we look at what they have, take the tour the offer through the actual Space center where we visit the old mission command center, the training facility with a replica of the space shuttle as well as an exhibit of old space crafts. Also we watch a movie about astronauts at the IMAX.
Mid afternoon we head to Sugarland to search the house of John Reiland. With help of Police and Fire Dept. we finally find it. But, somebody else is living there – the Reilands had moved out three weeks ago. The people are very friendly and showed their house. They also gave us John’s new address and the directions to get there. Unfortunately, nobody is home. We have to hurry to find a hotel before dark. The LaQuinta is close by and we have a coupon. Just next door is a Steak and Ale – what a delicious prime rib!
