To look at things is very different from seeing it – Oscar Wilde

Monument Valley

Today we have an early breakfast, pack our belongings and leave the hotel shortly after 8am. Our destination: Monument Valley!

On the way we stop at the Navajo National Monument and walk down to the view point from where the Betatakin ruins are visible – a glimpse into the history of the United States.

Then we continue to the magnificent Monument Valley. It is fascinating and breathtaking! Not one cloud on the sky and very few tourists on the loop.

Marco and I conclude that this is the perfect time of the year for a trip to this area.

Mid afternoon we hit the road again: 180 miles to Flagstaff. At around 6pm we arrive in town, tired and hungry. Before we have a hotel in mind but before we drive there we stop at the Outback Steakhouse where we have a big glass of fresh beer and a delicious steak. With a full and happy stomach we check into the Ramada West. A hotel that definitely has seen better days.
