Our timing was right and the 180 miles and the dirty Jeep were worth it…
The sky over San Diego was overcast and gray, so we decided to head to the desert once more and were hopping for clear sky and blooming cactuses and flowers. The route took us East on HWY 8, then North on S79 passing Cuyamaca Lake and shortly before Julian we turned East again towards Anzo Borrego Desert and Anzo Borrego Springs. We first drove a dirt and sand road into some sand dunes, very fascinating and fun to drive! As the “road” was leading further and further away from civilization and not in the direction we intended to go, we finally decided to turn around.
Halfway back on our way to Julian we took another chance and turned right into another gravel road. This one lead us through fields of blooming flowers in all colors – it was magnificent!
The cactuses though were not all blooming yet, a reason to go back in 2 weeks or so ?!?!
