Today we have started our trip….

This morning we spontaneously decide to pack our stuff and hit the road. The car had been serviced last week and is ready and there is no reason to stay in San Diego any longer.

We hit the road at around 10:00 am and head east on HWY 8 all the way to Gila Bend, about 75 Miles before Phoenix. On the way we pass the Algodones Dunes (huge sand dunes) just before Yuma. Arriving in Gila Bend at about 2:00 pm. we quickly find a nice, clean but small room at the Yucca Motel. We take a short break and then drive another 20 Miles to the Sonora Desert. We find some nice Saguaro cactuses but are otherwise rather disappointed – we expected more. Also with temperatures of about 110 Fahrenheit (about 43 Celsius) it is way too hot to take long walks. We soon return to the Motel.
