07:00 time to get out of bed, have breakfast at the hotel and get ready to go.
Shortly after 9:00 we are on the road further south in towards Walsenburg and the Great Sand Dunes. It is cloudy and rainy. The sand dunes are visible from far. When we arrive there we first have to dress up. It is very windy and cold. We take a walk into the sand dunes to explore them closer and the sand is getting through our cloth into each and every wrinkle and corner – everywhere!

The street leading from the sand dunes north (Hwy 17) and then west to Gunnison is passing beautiful mountains and green canyons again. It is a very nice part of Colorado and the cities we pass are very clean and orderly – amazing.

About 10 miles before Montrose we turn right on SR 347 to Black Canyon – another very impressive canyon. The sun is coming back just right to take some pictures.

Tired after a long but very nice day we arrive in Montrose. The Canyon Trail Inn is our host for the night. After a pizza at the Italian next door we take a well deserved shower to get rid of the sand.
