Today we have to say good bye to Yellowstone, but we don’t want to just head straight to the HWY and go south, we choose the route through the Park. We visit the Midway Basin on our way: the geysers through high columns of steam in the air in which the colors of the bacteria fields and the turquoise water reflect – a fantastic scenery once more. Then we head towards the South Exit of Yellowstone National Park. We stop a few more times along Lewis River to let our eyes feast on the colors of the meadows and watch out for moose.

Just south of Yellowstone is the Grand Teton National Park with its 13,000 feet (3,900 Meter) plus peaks and Jackson and Jenny Lake which lay just in front of the peaks and all of it framed in golden colored aspen trees! Unfortunately, there is a managed fire further south and therefore the whole valley is hazy with lingering smoke, so we don’t take as many pictures as we would have liked and hoped to.

We drive on HWY 89 south through beautiful Wyoming. We are driving through Geneva, Montpellier, are passing Bern and even visit Paris (this one has a population of only about 200). This whole part of Wyoming is dominated by cattle farming. The farms are mostly well maintained and spread through out the valley – a beautiful sight. At some point we even have to stop for some cowboys on their horses guiding their cows along the road.

We stay on HWY 89 all the way to Bingham City north of Salt Lake City. We quickly take a detour to watch the sunset and get eaten up by mosquitos. Then Marco drives all the way through Ogden, Salt Lake City and Provo to Nephi where we arrive at about 9:30pm after driving more than 500 miles. We stay at a lousy Motel 6, have a bite to eat at Burger King and then hit the pillow.
