Snow and spring flowers

SONY SLT-A77V, f/6.3, 1/400 sec, ISO 100

Last weekend we had a real winter storm and snow had fallen in the mountains around Southern California. But, we didn’t get the chance to drive up there because the weather only cleared up again on Monday and we still didn’t feel well.

Today the weather is cloudy and we hope to find some sunshine further inland. We head up north on HWY15 and then up to Palomar Mountain. We stop at an avocado and orange orchard in Pauma Valley – we first walk around the avocado trees, some of them are blooming and some of them are full of fruits. The orange trees on the other hand have blossoms and fruits on the same tree. The air is saturated with the sweet smell of the blossoms and we take some very deep breaths – we can hardly get enough of it.

Further up when we drive into the forest we still find some snow in shady places and along the road – it must have had a lot of snow last weekend if some of it survived until today!

On the other side of Palomar Mountain, driving down to Lake Henshaw we find Spring! The meadows are blooming in yellow, thousands of tiny yellow flowers convey a fresh feeling of spring.
