Jumping bighorn sheep

SONY ILCE-7RM5, f/7.1, 1/2000 sec, ISO 1,000

Bighorn sheep, also known as Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep, are known for their impressive jumping ability. They are able to jump up to 15 feet in a single bound, which allows them to navigate steep and rocky terrain with ease. The bighorn sheep’s strong hind legs and cloven hooves, which have hard outer shells and soft inner pads, help them to grip and jump on rocky surfaces. Additionally, the bighorn sheep’s relatively short front legs allow them to maintain balance while jumping. This jumping ability is also used in fights between males, called rams, during mating season. The rams will often jump at each other with the goal of knocking their opponent off balance in order to establish dominance.
