06:30: the stock exchange opens and Marco is getting up. I still don’t feel 100 percent and need another half hour to wake up and get out of bed. Sometime around 9:00 we leave Reno towards Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is up in the mountains at 6229 ft elevation. The water is crystal clear. Ponderosa Ranch is also up here and we take a break and have a look at it. South Lake Tahoe we see from far only, but what we see is enough: high-rise buildings and Casinos. We take 207 away from the lake again and down to Genoa an old settlement from 1850s and Dayton where they first discovered gold in 1849. We also get a glimpse at old Carson City – looks inviting for a change. But we still drive on a search our way to Hwy 80 east. Shortly after Fernley we pass some fields with salt.
We first think of spending the night in Winnemucca. But, Marco feels comfortable to drive another 130 Miles to Elko. A city we would expect to have an AOL access number. Ha, ha, what a joke – no such a thing. First our car gets a wash to remove all the dust and the remains of insects sticking to it. It well deserved it, meanwhile it reliably drove us over 8,000 miles since we bought it and over 5,000 miles since we left San Diego. We stay at the National 9 El Nevo and ‘enjoy’ a Chinese dinner at King’s Buffet.
